Charles Trevail


Charles has been a leader in the consulting world for the past 20 years and in 2003 he co-founded the pioneering co-creation consultancy Promise. In 2012 Promise merged with Communispace, and as Executive Vice President, Global, Charles was responsible for leading offices outside of North America and building of the Communispace network around the world. At Communispace, he is hands-on in working with and advising clients. Having built up two very high profile consultancies, Charles is passionate about reinventing companies and brands through collaborating with customers and stakeholders. Previously Charles was Chief Executive of FutureBrand, and Managing Director of Brand Union before that and became the youngest member of Sir Martin Sorrell's WPP Top 100 Club by the age of 34.

As a founding member of both organisations, his leadership drove them to become leaders in their fields, establishing global reputations for their thinking, creativity and service delivery. He has advised companies and governments internationally, including British Airways, BMW, McDonald's, Telefonica and L'Oreal. Career highlights include:

  • Part of the team that helped realise Canary Wharf, out of the desolate
    Docklands area in East London.
  • Helped British Airways invent and launch "21st century air travel," including
    the world's first flat beds in business class.
  • Worked with McDonald's envisioning and creating its "restaurant of the future pilot,"
    launched in the UK in 2012.
  • Initiated the 'Barefoot consultants' programme in Tanzania with John Hatch,
    founder of FINCA, the Washington DC based microfinance organisation,
    to co-create solutions to poverty with women living on less than $1 a day.

He has also worked with a number of leaders. He advised on strategy for New Labour in the 2005 election, where they achieved an historic third term in office, described by Tony Blair in his recent memoirs as a 'minor miracle,' and advised Al Gore and his team at Generation IM on launching and positioning the leading sustainable asset management firm.

Charles is also a regular commentator in the media. Recent appearances have included the BBC, CNN, CNBC, Sky and the Financial Times. He is also a regular speaker at industry events and is a judge on a number of industry awards.

He co-wrote the book Brand Together on co-creation, brand and innovation, published in October 2011, and prior to that wrote many influential thought pieces including "Global or Local – Which Way Next?"

Charles is married with two children, is an avid sportsman and has interests in politics, theatre and his home county, Cornwall. Charles also finds time to do pro bono work, supporting and advising a number of charities such as Marie Curie and he sits on the UK Board of FINCA.
